Dissertationsprojekt

Global Cinnamon. Fashioning Intercolonial and Transimperial Connections in the 18th and 19th Centuries

Daniel Costa’s PhD project is a multilingual global history project bringing together sources related to cinnamon in the context of the spice trade in the Indian Ocean and Atlantic World from 1700 to 1850. It explores the intercolonial as well as transimperial connections fueled by the quest for the spice, in a context often marked by an underlying focus on connections between the colonies and metropoles. Daniel Costa takes his MA dissertation a step further, delving into the pursuit of botanical knowledge related to the commercial routes forged by the rivalry and collaboration which shaped the stances inherent in imperial networks.
